Paediatric First Aid

The FAA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid course focuses on situations that can occur around those looking after young children and infants. This course meets the requirements of Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register.

2 days

6 hours worth of training required per day, excluding breaks

Recommended 3 hour refresher for year 1 & 2 of qualification

What will you learn?

This course will cover how to deal in the workplace with the following:

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider

  • Seizure

  • Diabetic emergencies

  • Primary survey

  • Choking

  • Asthma

  • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)

  • Minor injuries

  • Meningitis

  • Wounds, bleeding and shock

  • Recovery position

  • Febrile convulsions

  • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis

  • Fractures

  • Extreme cold and heat

  • Head, neck and back injuries

  • Foreign bodies

  • Electrical incidents

Practicals

An emphasis on attendees being relaxed and feeling comfortable attempting practicals is always at the forefront of SAH Training, building confidence, knowledge and skills.

Equipment used includes:

  • Choking vest

  • CPR Manikins

  • Auto-injectors (epi-pens)

  • Tourniquets

  • Bandages

  • Wound packing

Who Should Attend?

This course is for people working with young children and those working towards an Early Years educator qualification, including day nurseries, private nursery schools, pre-schools, before and after school clubs for children in the early years age group, childminders and carers of children at home.

Blended Learning

We also offer a blended learning Paediatric training course, which requires 1 day of online learning, combined with 1 day of practical learning. Get in touch for more information.

Assessment

Attendees will be observed and will need to be deemed confident and competent in all practical elements, skills and knowledge.

Course Requirements

Candidates need a good understanding of English. Candidates must be physically able to demonstrate the practical skills required to complete the assessment.

Important Information

In line with Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements, at least one person on the premises must have a current full paediatric first aid certificate and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current full paediatric first aid certificate.
